Who we are …

Performance Kitchen is a small brand with big ambitions. We are on a mission to change lives through nutrition by creating meals which allow people to eat nutritiously without compromising convenience or taste. We have big plans for our future, and are looking for a capable, highly-motivated individual to join our growing team. This person will work in-person with the Performance Kitchen team in Burien, Washington, as well as remotely with our head office located in Vancouver, BC, Canada. This position will report directly to our Director of Brand and Product.

You will …

  • Be responsible for developing and designing new and innovative products
  • Provide insight and understanding on leading nutrition and diet standards throughout the product development process
  • Collaborate with and lead co-manufacturers to support the development of new product launches
  • Source and locate new ingredient suppliers for development, cost savings, and processing efficiencies
  • Create engaging visual assets to support the NPD, creative, sales, and marketing teams
  • Provide understanding and clarity on various regulations throughout the product development process
  • Actively engage in and contribute creative ideas in meal concepting
  • Assist the NPD team in creating, refining, and evolving brand guidelines and standards
  • Stay aware and ahead of food, nutrition, and packaging trends while always being willing to share creative inspiration
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance Director to prepare and present SOPs, review customer and co-manufacturer complaints, and conduct qualitative and quantitative evaluations of finished products
  • Understand Gluten-Free, Organic, Non-GMO, and Whole Grain requirements, while maintaining associated certificates and accounts
  • Create and control a GS1 account for GTINs and barcodes
  • Review and approve creative artwork to meet FDA, USDA and CFIA regulations
  • Troubleshoot product and processing issues as required
  • Review pricing and BOMS with the finance team and implement cost reduction strategies on new and existing products
  • Perform other duties from time to time as needed by your manager

And YOU…

  • Share our passion for transforming our world through food with your “everything is possible” and “can do” attitude
  • Are versed in ESHA-Genesis (or an equivalent program), with experience generating nutritional fact panels, ingredient declarations, and nutritional data charts
  • Have knowledge of CFIA, FDA and USDA regulations and other governing council requirements
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Have strong analytical skills and experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Have a passion for food
  • Are comfortable working within project management software (Wrike)
  • Have a degree in Food Science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Have a minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a food manufacturing environment, with a product development related position
  • Understand how to scale up formulations from bench to full size production volumes
  • Have a strong understanding of FSQA best practices and protocols in a production facility
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with many competing priorities and stakeholders
  • Possess a strong attention to detail, able to multi-task, problem solve, and ability and willingness to be hands on
  • Have the ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with, lead, and work well in a team
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal, with the ability to communicate across teams and organizational roles
